Can Anyone Sell Bubble Bath?

Can Anyone Sell Bubble Bath?

This hasn’t been simple.

It turned out to be much harder than we anticipated. Selling bubble bath comes with Rules. And rightly so. Because if just anyone could sell bubble bath… Well! Who knows what unscrupulous businesses would spring up?!

We thought that developing our recipe was the difficult bit. Once we had our beautiful product, loved by all who tried it, we thought we only had to make a logo and open our shop.

Nope.

In order to sell cosmetics (bubble bath is classed as a cosmetic product) we had to obtain a Cosmetic Product Safety Report. That entailed submitting our recipes to a qualified chemist for official analysis.

Our chemist was very thorough. We had to tell them the exact quantities of each ingredient and we also had to let them know which suppliers we were using.

Stringent safety requirements ensure that no one in GB is allowed to sell cosmetics that haven’t been through this rigorous process. Our ingredients - at the concentrations we are using - are verified to be safe, fit for purpose and sourced from trusted suppliers who also meet the trustability standards.

Our Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) helped us to meet the legal requirements for labelling, including calculating the levels of potential allergens in our products.

Our CPSR allows us to sell our products only in Great Britain, which is fine by us, because we don’t think that international shipping aligns with our eco-friendly ethos.

There was one more legal requirement, before we could open our shop. We had to submit our recipe to the official government database. Did you know there’s a place where medics can look up the specific details of cosmetic products, in case of emergency?

It was more complicated than we anticipated, to be able to sell our bubble bath, but we navigated the obstacles and gained a new appreciation for the way the law keeps everyone safe.
